This decorated rubber swimming cap was produced by Kleinerts Sava - Wave in the United Kingdom. The white textured cap has been embellished with three appliquéd cut-out rubber flowers in pink, blue and yellow.
SignificanceThis swimming cap is representative of beach and pool fashions of the 1950s and 1960s. Caps were often worn to accessorise with a swimsuit, and to protect permanent wave hairstyles popular during the period.
HistoryDuring the 1960s extravagantly decorated rubber swimming caps were very much in vogue. Often designed by milliners, caps were brightly coloured, appliquéd with flowers or ribbons, or moulded into shapes.
