    This postcard features an image of eleven national flags and states that the card was "Carried by a runner for the 2.1 miles in the 'Around the world race' in 14 minutes at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, Christmas Day 1998." The Race around the world has become a Christmas Day tradition at the American Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station with runners completing a 2.1 mile circuit which passes through all time zones and lines of longitude.
    SignificanceThis collection is significant in representing a broad range of Antarctic philately interests (the study of stamps and postal history). It covers most of the countries who have bases in the white continent and are signatories to the Antarctic Treaty, including all of the Australian bases.
