    Description
Manuscript letter copybook of Edward S. Doubleday, August 1890 to February 1892.
SignificanceEdward Doubleday was the son of the wealthy New York businessman, Chester P. Doubleday. These letters relate to joint ventures between the pair in Australian gold and silver mines, as well as castor oil imports to Australia from Asia. This letter book documents the well established business links between the United States and Australia that had developed as a result of the Victorian and New South Wales gold discoveries in the 1850s.
