SignificanceThese form part of a diverse collection of merchant navy medals and certificates that records several significant military achievements and the wartime service of Australian merchant mariners.
HistoryJohn Fisher (b.1857) served in the Dutch merchant navy during the Acheh Wars from 1873-1876. The Dutch invaded the independent Sultanate of Acheh and fought a series of difficult struggles against the Achenise forces. John Fisher was awarded four medals including the Netherlands Cross.
