    SignificanceFollowing the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, ENCOUNTER and her crew were part of the force which occupied German New Guinea.
    HistoryThe Returned from Active Service Badge, WW1 was for soldiers and nurses who returned to Australia from Active Service during World War One and were honourably discharged.

    The badge consist in a circle surmounted by a crown reading: RAN with a chained anchor. Text surrounding the anchor reads: Issued by RAN Dept. of Navy Returned from Active Service. Inscription on verso reads: '1322'
