This issue of The Illustrated War News dates to 14 April 1915 and is captioned: a remarkable exclusive photograph: a naval landing-party coming in to Kum Kaleh, at the entrance of the Dardanelles.
HistoryOne of the first amphibious operations in modern warfare began in February 1915 when Turkish forts at the entrance to the Dardanelles were bombarded. In March British landing parties were put ashore at Kum Kaleh and Sedd-el-Bahr (Seddul-Bahr) to disable the remaining Turkish guns and clear the way for army brigades to follow.
