    Description
This Zippo lighter and box is a piece of United States Navy memorabilia related to USS ARNEB (AKA-56), an Andromeda-class attack cargo ship that was laid down at Moore Drydock Co., at Oakland, California, launched in July 1943 and commissioned in April 1944. The vessel took part in Operation Deep Freeze 1, 2 and 3 (1956 - 1964) designed to secure the USA's presence in Antarctica. It arrived in Sydney on 17 February where it underwent minor repairs to a damaged hull before leaving on 28 February 1957. This lighter is significant within the collection of naval souvenirs acquired by Vanessa (Zena) Roberson during the period between 1950 and 1980 because it was given by Chief Rocky Davis, described in the associated paperwork as “one man I might have married.”
