    Description
This wooden handled and silver plated presentation trowel is in a custom made triangular-shaped wooden display box. The trowel is decorated with engraved motifs and reads; Presented to His Excellency Admiral Sir Harry Rawson CCB (?) by the Committee, on the occaision of his laying the Foundation Stone of The Rawson Institute for Seamen, Sydney, (??th) March, 1909.
This marked the occaision of a major extension to the original building at this time and the connection with the first naval Governor of NSW since Governor Bligh, Governor Rawson.
SignificanceThe trowel is an exquisite piece of decorative work in its own right but also reflects the association of the Seamen's Institute with the Governor of NSW.
