    Belaying pin probably from the NIPPON MARU - a Japanese Navy sailing training vessel that visited Sydney in 1970.
    SignificanceThis belaying pin was part of a group presented to the Mission for Seafarers by an appreciative Japanese crew and reflects the international outlook, and assistance provided by missions to sailors from around the world.
    HistoryBuilt in 1930 as a sail and navigation training ship, in 54 years of service, almost 12,000 cadets learned sailing on NIPPON MARU. The vessel was retired in 1984, and is in Yokohama City and open to the public.
