    Mavis Warrngilna Ganambarr is a highly renowned Aboriginal artist from Elcho Island. The artist has a high profile and now registered as designer in commercial market. Her works are collected in private and public collections including in national galleries.


    SignificanceAfter being taught fibre art at the age of 19, Mavis has spent years experimenting and creating new styles of weaving and wearable art. The shells used are Luthuluthu (neritina) shells, and are become harder to gather around the island.
    HistoryMavis Warrngilna Ganambarr was born at Matamata Homeland in North East Arnhem Land and now lives on Galiwin' ku on Elcho Island. After being taught fibre art at the age of 19, Mavis has spent years experimenting and creating new styles of weaving and wearable art. The shells used are Luthuluthu (neritina) shells, and are become harder to gather around the island.
