    Description
Needlework sampler worked by Julia Donovan on board the CARNATIC, dated 23 January 1879, and probably given to the ship's Matron Alice Wadley.
HistoryThe sampler is part of a collection of items relating to the career of Alice Wadley as a stewardess and matron onboard immigration vessels on the Australian route from 1879 until she retired at Sydney in 1887.

The CARNATIC departed London on 25 October 1878 and arrived in Rockhampton, Queensland, on 5 February 1879. Queensland Archives has the immigration record of Julia Donovan, aged 19, arriving in Rockhampton on board the CARNATIC, on 5 February 1879.
