It provides detailed descriptions of landfalls, hazards, port facilities, weather, local customs, trading oppourtunities, tides, magnetic anomalies, and safe passages.
    SignificanceFindlay's South Pacific Directory of 1863 is an excellent example of the resources available to mariners for the safe navigation of vessels in the 19th century. Shipping directorys, sailing guides and notices were often the most accurate resource available to sailors of that period.
