    HistoryVacuum Oil Pty Ltd was an American company, founded in 1866 by Matthew Ewing and Hiram Bond Everest. It began selling lubricating oils in Australia in 1895 and in 1916 introduced a brand of petrol called Plume. In 1931, the merger of the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) and the Vacuum Oil Company created the company Mobil. In 1954 the Plume petrol brand was replaced by Mobilgas, and in 1963 was rebranded as Mobil.
