    Description
This unusual green tomato print cotton swimsuit has halter neck straps with a sweetheart neckline, a scooped back and elasticised legs. Fully lined with cotton stockinette at the front, this 1950s design from Tempo has a shirred central panel and horizontal seams around the bust to lend support and create a flattering shape.
SignificanceThis swimsuit is a rare example of women's beachwear fashions produced by Tempo in the 1950s. The garment still has its original swing tag attached.
HistoryFrom the late 1940s cotton swimsuits and sunsuits were often shaped and textured with shirring, smocking and contrasting panels. This created a curvaceous and ultra-feminine silhouette that emphasised the bust, waistline and hips.
