    Description
A collection of 16 lithographs titled 'Vues de Lieux Célèbres de Diverses Parties du Monde, d'après les Dessins de N Ozanne' ('Famous places around the World') after drawings by Nicolas-Marie Ozanne.
SignificanceThis compilation reflects the popularity in 18th century Europe of publications relating to the genre of exploring voyages.

HistoryThis publication comprises sixteen prints based on drawings by the celebrated French marine artist Nicolas Ozanne and covers the period 1740 (Anson's circumnavigation in HMS CENTURION) to 1788 (La Perouse's Pacific Ocean periplus in the ASTROLABE and BOUSSOLE) and also includes views recorded on such 'non-discovery' voyages as Henry Wilson's 1783 voyage to the Pelew Islands in the ANTELOPE, John Meares's fur trading voyages to Nootka Sound from Macau (1788-89) and John Mathews's 1785 voyage to Africa. All of the lithographs are sub-scripted with their publication details: "A Paris, chez Noel, Md. D'Estampes, Rue St. Jacques, No.16. et chez Bulla, Rue St. Jacques, No.38".
