    Painting of SS NARANI. It is attributed to George Frederick Gregory junior but could be by Fred Dawson or another of the few workmanlike marine artists or ship portraitists painting in Australia's ports in the early 20th century.
    SignificanceSS NARANI operated along the coast of New South Wales as a coastal trader from 1914 - 1951.
    HistoryThe SS NARANI was owned by the North Coast Steam Navigation co and later by the Illawarra & South Coast Navigation co. It operated along the coast of New South Wales as a coastal trader from 1914 - 1951. The NARANI was also requisitioned by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during World War II as an auxiliary minesweeper based in Newcastle, New South Wales.
    She was sold in 1951 to the New Guinea Borneo Mangrove Co., based in Port Moresby and broken up in 1954.
