    Description
Letter to Hermann F Kroeger from Oskar Speck typed letter in German and dated 9 June 1987. The letter notes that folding boats aren’t well known in Australia, if necessary call it a kayak, but definitely not a canoe or paddleboat.
    Translation
    • Oskar Speck, Killcare, 23 April 1987 Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany. Attention Consul Dr. Hermann F. Kroeger. Dear Dr. Kroeger, Thank you for your letter dated 14 May 1987. I am pleased to hear you are thinking of coming to visit me. You are most welcome. I have finished working on the report about my folding boat trip to Australia. It’ll probably be a while before “Die Woche” will use such an article, so there will be time to make all sorts of changes to it, shorten it perhaps, etc. Since folding boats are unknown in Australia, I think it appropriate to include a photograph of the boat. I am including a photo and with it details of the dimensions of the boat written on the back. Of course, I’d be prepared to answer any further questions if necessary. Since folding boats are virtually unknown in Australia, it might be appropriate to call them “kayaks” instead of folding boats. But not “canoe” or “paddleboat”, please. Such a journey would not have been possible in either of those. Best regards, Yours [unsigned]
