Letter from the German Consul to the treating doctor in Dutch with accompanying envelope. The letter is dated 6 November 1937 and outlines the treatment Speck received after his attack.
    • Saumlaki, 6 November 1937 Dear Colleague, This concerns Mr Speck, the German canoeist. He has been under my treatment from 27 October with otitis media [Latin medical term]. He would have suffered this after a beating. The District Doctor who was in Saumlaki and examined him, advised the following treatment: irst clean with dry cotton wool then a few drops of [illegible percentage] Perhydrol, clean ater it has been foaming for a couple of minutes, 3 % carbolglycerine, plug with a gauze dressing, in the auricle a piece of cotton wool. The G.G.A [District Doctor] asked me to give this letter to Mr Speck, to show the doctors he may meet on his further trip to Australia. I wish you success with the treatment. Fraternal greetings, [illegible name] [Envelope title:] To the Treating Doctor
