    Translation
    • German Consulate Surabaya Surabaya 31 December 1937 My dear Specky, I hope you receive this brief message today; all I wanted to tell you was that on New Year's Eve my wishes for my friends' happiness will include you. May you have a really great year in 1938, may you recover fully and may you achieve your goal. 31.12.37 Page 8 of 32Unfortunately, I couldn't get around to seeing you this week. However, I will have some spare time on Tuesday and then you will be able to see me. But don , t think I've forgotten you just because you haven't laid eyes on my dopey face. I ' m currently enjoying another two days of rest in the mountains. I really need them and I , m sure they , ll be pleasant. In spite of my insistence those clowns at the post office wouldn't tell me if any mail had arrived for you. So now I've written an official letter with an official stamp from the consulate, asking them to send all mail for you to C.B.Z. I hope you will finally get some mail. All the best, yours truly with a German handshake Signature
