Letter from Oskar Speck to Dr Klaiber, German Consul, Surabaya typed in German and dated 9 February 1938. The letter is to request assistance to get back to his boat, the governor of East Java does not want to assist him. Also asks if there is any news about his stolen belongings.
    • Oskar Speck Surabaya 9 February 1938 German Consulate Surabaya Dear Dr. Klaiber, Yesterday I received notice that the Governor of East Java does not intend to have me brought back to Saumlaki after my recuperation. It appears to me that the governor does not feel responsible for this situation, so he refuses to act. I think the issue of providing free transportation should be discussed with the authorities who paid for my transportation here. I also have the impression that the local authorities hardly know anything about the matter and aren't interested in it either. As I really have to return to my boat and belongings, I respectfully request you to ask the Dutch Government to arrange for my return. Furthermore, I have not been notified whether my stolen belongings have been found or what has become of the whole matter. I have regained my health, but I am still being treated and I have absolutely no idea how long it will take until I can start travelling again. My address will continue to be the consulate in Surabaya. Looking forward to a speedy reply and thanking you in advance, German salutation and Heil Hitler
