    • German Consulate Surabaya Surabaya 1 March 1938 Mr. Oskar Speck Currently Surabaya The German Consulate General has informed me that you asked for assistance in negotiations with the government of the Dutch Indies in regard to your ongoing voyage to Australia by paddle boat. The Consulate General has asked me to express his regrets to you that he is not able to help you in this matter. As the route you have planned is particularly dangerous, the Consulate General could not assist you should you even declare in writing to accept all responsibility for any misadventure etc. However, the Consulate General is prepared to assist you in any other way that may concern your journey. On behalf of the German Consul
