    Letter from Oskar Speck to the German Consulate, Surabaya typed in German, dated 16 October, 1938. The letter is about a customs excise.
    Translation
    • Oskar Speck Saumlaki Currently: Saumlaki 16 October 1938 German Consulate Surabaya I would like to express my gratitude to the consulate in Surabaya for their kind assistance regarding the customs matters with respect to my new collapsible boat. According to the local officer, the amount paid can only be refunded ater I have let Dutch territory. A paper has been given to me with a list that must be signed in the various ports I visit. The consulate will be reimbursed once I have passed Hollandia, the border town. On arrival in Hollandia, I will send the signed list, as registered post, to the consulate. Thanking you again, as well as the German Hilfsverband (Aid Association) of Surabaya for their support, German salutation and Heil Hitler P.S. My address: Manokwari or Hollandia, respectively Dutch New Guinea, post rest
