    • Oskar Speck Tepa Currently: Tepa, Island of Barbar 15 May 1938 Publishing company “Scherrl” Publishing Co. Main editorial office Berlin Today I dispatched the promised manuscript about my journey through the islands-world east of India in a collapsible boat. The mail -boat I sent it on will arrive in Surabaya on 1 June. You should get it 3 weeks later. I did my best to follow your instructions. Excluding the introduction and captions, the manuscript comprises 41 pages. The illustrations consist ofin 40 Leica negatives and thirty one31 extracts of 16mm film extracts. Unfortunately, I was not always able to find photos that perfectly matched the manuscript. Many negatives were damagedspoilt. In particular, I do not have negatives depicting the attack on the island of Lakor. I intend to take some photos of the natives that attacked me when I return to the island of Kissar in the next couple of days. Those people are in gaol. I will also send you some negatives of Barbar, the island I am currently on. I will attempt to send the negatives by airmail via Dili, Timor to Berlin. I expect they will reach you the same time the manuscript arrives. Having heard only veryjust recently heard that a sailing boat would soon be leavinge for Kissar and takinge mail, which could then be taken further to Surabaya, I did not have enough time to correct the manuscript properly. Assuming that you will want to make some changes anyway, I don't think it willwon’t matter much anyway. Otherwise, the manuscript would have had to stay here for another 5 weeks. In the event thatcase you cannot make any use of the manuscript or negatives, please send the items to the following address: Mr. L. Speck, Hamburg-Altona, Roonstr. 45 Otherwise, please keep the negatives for me in your archive. In any case, I shall expect your reply by airmail to: Manokwari, Dutch New Guinea, poste restante. I expect to receive my new boat in Saumlaki on 21 June. I hope to obtain permission to continue my journey along the northern coastside of New Guinea, so tmeaning that I would arrive at Manokwari in early August. Heil Hitler! Signature
