William Cockburn MD

1668-1739

William Cockburn (1668-1739) was born in Scotland and studied medicine in the early 1690s. He achieved a Licentiate of the College of Physicians in 1694 and was physician to the fleet under Captain Charles Wagner. From the little information available, Cockburn published several works in numerous editions throughout his life time. He is also recorded to have been appointed physician at Greenwich hospital in 1731. He died in November 1739 and was buried in the middle aisle of Westminster Abbey.
