Robert McRae

Australian, born 1954

Robert (Bob) McRae is an art teacher and respected naval artist based in Wollongong. He works mainly in watercolour and charcoal to produce sketches.
During a painting trip to Darwin in 1999 to sketch the Northern Territory wetlands McRae painted a number of vessels stationed at the naval port. These vessels were part of the multinational force preparing for operations in East Timor. McRae was especially interested in capturing the international vessels, such as the ships of the Italian, Portuguese and Canadian navies.

He then moved on to become an official artist with the Royal Australian Navy during various offshore exercises.

McRae's work is held in the collections of the Australian War Memorial, Australian National Maritime Museum, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Port Kembla Port Authority and Darwin Port Authority.
